According to the website Latino-Review.com, the proposed solo Batman movie could feature Deadshot as a villain. Previous reports have suggested that the film, possibly directed and co-written by Ben Affleck, would involve the Joker and Red Hood.
While this is just a rumor as Affleck and DC Comic's Geoff Johns work on the script, it does suggest a little bit about Smith's Deadshot and his value to the overal DCEU. Based on most interviews and limited footage, Jared Leto's Joker is gaining a lot of hype ahead of his appearence in "Suicide Squad." That makes it more likely that fans, and the studio, will be looking to put Affleck's Batman and Leto's Joker on screen as soon as possible. We've already heard reports that Joker and Deadshot will be involved in some sort of love triangle with Harley Quinn in "Suicide Squad," so perhaps any animosity established there could transfer to the Batman standalone feature, assuming the timeline matches up.
For me, this report gives me more confidence in Will Smith's performance as Deadshot. Yes, Will Smith is a huge movie star who can carry a film on his own, so it makes sense to attach him to a Batman solo project. However, there was some hesitation from fans over his casting and we haven't heard much about Smith's performance. The fact that the studio, Affleck, and Johns may want Smith's Deadshot featured even more suggests that the actor nailed the character.
What does that mean for those Red Hood rumors? We'll have to wait and see! In the meantime, here is a list of Deadshot stories from the comics to get familiar with, as perhaps they could influence any future film scripts:
Secret Six by Gail Simone
Deadshot: Beginnings by John Ostrander and Kim Yale
Batman #606 Death Wish for Two
Deadshot Volume 2
